Enjoying a tiny, caffeinated cuppa in front of our former shop . That repurposed chest of drawers / planter I’m sat next to was the best ‘Pinspiration.’

The key to keeping it around for more than a year of bipolar Scottish weather was yacht varnish. Yearly coats of that sticky - tedious to work with but necessary - stuff was necessary.

In my angsty teen years I would often paint my “blue periods” (Thank you for that term Picasso - so accurate). But later on I began to paint more and more of what I want to see in my life, not just whatever sh*t I was thinking or feeling at that time. Almost painting like a vision board. I have been getting back to this lately. Painting what I want to see.

She was born before her time, doing things like legally changing her first name back in the 1950’s, just because she wanted to. She got up at 6am every single morning to meditate, which I thought was so odd back as a kid in the eighties. She was a prolific painter, a nature enthusiast, a woman who loved to watch episodes of Golden Girls while doing craft projects with her grandkids, and she was a woman who was such a wonderful and unforgettable inspiration to me.
